Do I need to be authorised to conduct litigation?

Modified on Fri, 28 Feb at 12:19 PM

This isn’t something that the Barrister Records Office can help with, but you may wish to refer to the Conducting Litigation Guidance available on the Bar Standards Board website for further information:

Conducting Litigation Guidance

If after having read the guidance you have questions regarding what constitutes Litigation or whether you require this right to carry out your work, please contact the Ethical Enquiries Services at the Bar Council as they may be able to assist. They can be reached on 020 7611 1307 or by email at ethics@barstandardsboard.org.uk.

If you have made, or wish to make, an application for authorisation to conduct litigation, please contact the Authorisations Department of the Bar Standards Board directly as they update, process and maintain all records in relation to this right. They can be reached on 020 7611 1444 or by email at authorisations@barstandardsboard.org.uk.

More information regarding contacting the Authorisations Department of the Bar Standards Board can be found here.
