Do I need to have insurance in place before I submit my application for a Practising Certificate?

When you complete the application for a practising certificate, you will need to complete the insurance declaration to confirm that you have and will maintain insurance if and insofar as you are required to by the BSB Handbook.

If you are required to take out insurance with the Bar Mutual Indemnity Fund, they may ask that you have your practising certificate in place before they will issue you with insurance. As such, you can submit your application for a Practising Certificate before you finalise arranging insurance, but you must ensure you have it in place before you begin undertaking any work.
