What does the practising certificate fund?

Modified on Mon, 9 Sep, 2024 at 1:13 PM

It funds:

  • the Bar Standards Board;
  • a share of the costs of the Legal Services Board (LSB) and Office of Legal Complaints (OLC); and
  • selected Bar Council Approved Regulator and representation expenditure that falls within the ‘permitted purposes’ as defined by the LSB in accordance with section 51 of the Legal Services Act 2007 and its rules.

The General Council of the Bar is the Approved Regulator of the Bar of England and Wales. It discharges its regulatory functions through the independent Bar Standards Board.

Under the LSB rules, each year the Bar Council consults you on both the budget and PCF proposals and provides the proposals and feedback to the LSB for review.
