TABLE OF CONTENTS

Which year am I declaring compliance with CPD?

You are declaring compliance for the previous CPD calendar year. This means during the 2025 AtP process you will be declaring compliance for the period 1 January 2024 - 31 December 2024.

If you did not hold a practising certificate during that period, complete the declaration based on the last calendar year you held a practising certificate.

Any barrister who has not completed their CPD requirements will not be refused authorisation. However, they will be asked to list what action they are taking to remedy this situation. Failure to take further action to resolve your CPD requirements may result in you being referred to the BSB's Supervision Department.

New practitioners are subject to a three-year programme and therefore should select this option on the declaration.

If you are unsure, please contact cpdrecords@barstandardsboard.org.uk to check.

Why am I being asked to complete these new CPD questions regarding my learning objectives for the previous and current CPD year?

These questions are part of our ongoing effort to better understand the professional development needs of the Bar. Your insights are invaluable in helping us strengthen and tailor our approach to assuring standards of professional competence at the Bar.

  1. How will my responses to the new CPD questions be used?

  2. Your responses will be used to help the BSB understand what the profession considers its priorities are for professional development. This will help us ensure we have a strong understanding of how the profession uses CPD. It will enable the BSB to consider areas for improvement in both CPD specifically, and wider approaches to assuring standards of professional competence.

  1. Will my responses to the new CPD questions be confidential?

Responses to these questions will be handled per the same data protection principles as the rest of the AtP process. They will only be publicly reported at an aggregate level.
